Lyle Klyne
I design and build software. Currently I'm working at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where I create tools for mission planning and spacecraft visualization for Mars 2020, Europa Clipper, and internal research.
Recent work
- Aerie, where I lead design for an open-source and multi-mission tool for mission planning.
- PIXLISE, a visualization and analysis tool for micro-XRF spectroscopy.
- ASTTRO & OnSight, two science targeting and terrain visualization tools used on daily operations for Perseverance and Opportunity.
- Explore with Perseverance, a simplified public version of the Mars terrain visualization tools with WebXR support.
- 3D Magnetic fields visualization, a web and VR application to understand how magnetic fields interact with spacecraft.
- Stellar Design System, an open-source design system to support data-rich and complex patterns common to spacecraft operations.
Personal projects
I spend a lot of my time creating digital tools and interactive experiences, and I also enjoy making art, furniture, lights and sounds.
- Daytime, a time tracking tool for mental health professionals. My first go at designing, building, and launching a product by myself. Built using Next.js.
- Lands, a prototype for a spatial collaboration platform focused on zen and privacy. Built using react-three-fiber, websockets, and livekit.
- Jackson Radio, a landing page featuring a 3D radio built out of divs.
